Alan Martin

Alan Lawrence Martin

1951 - 2026

Alan Lawrence Martin passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026. The Alan Lawrence Martin, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Alan was born on October 31, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Doris Martin. He grew up in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Juniata, and once, as a catcher, threw a runner out at second, making the throw from his knees and “on a frozen rope,” as he’d say. He graduated from Mastbaum High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force, being stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base and in Thailand, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge in 1974, Alan returned to Philadelphia, started a family and began his 30+ year career at Defense Supply Company (DSC).

In 1991, Alan relocated to DSC’s Richmond location where he met his cherished friend, Carol Cole. Alan retired in 2006 and lived with and cared for Carol throughout her struggles with MS until she passed in 2021.

Alan had a great sense of humor and loved sitting around and cracking jokes with family. He was a fan of auto racing and took joy in caring for and working on his own cars. He tried showing a couple of his grandkids how to do an oil change in the hope that car maintenance skills had skipped a generation, as his sons did not inherit that gene. Alan loved his sons and especially loved hearing stories about and receiving pictures of his 5 grandchildren.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and his mother, Doris. He is survived by his son, Christopher; his son, Brian and wife, Crystal; his grandchildren, Alexis, Luke, Jake, Nick, and Allison; his brother, Gary; and his nephew, Eric. He’s also survived by two pristine condition BMWs that his sons are terrified to touch because we know he’ll be looking down and judging how we’re driving them.

A private service will be held at a later date. Donations in Alan’s name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.is being cared for by Bliley's Funeral Home - Chippenham.
