Lakewood, N.J.
Nathlee "Lee" S. Thayres (Walker), age 82, passed away on January 23, 2025, at her home in Lakewood, NJ, where she had lived for the past 18 months. She was born in Philadelphia on March 20, 1942, to the late Nathlee Schaud Netsch and her stepfather, Earl Netsch. Lee grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Mastbaum High School. During her childhood, she spent her summers in Cape May, NJ. Lee also lived in the Thorofare section of West Deptford for many years and spent two years in Louisville, KY, where she had the chance to travel with her husband, Ed Sr.
Lee held various jobs throughout her career, starting as a keypunch operator in her mid-20s before becoming a computer programmer, where she wrote Fortran for Summit Office Supply in New York City. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Thorofare, NJ, where she regularly attended services with her late husband, Ed, and volunteered for church fundraising events.
Lee had a passion for gardening, completing tabletop puzzles, solving crossword puzzles, quilting, and birdwatching with her daughter, Lisa, at Hawk Mountain, PA. Most of all, Lee was a kind and generous person who always thought of others before herself.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Thayres Sr., in 1990, and by her husband, E. William Schmidt, in 2023.
Lee is survived by her children, Edward J. Thayres Jr. and Nathlee (Lisa) Thayres; her grandchildren, Edward J. (Kimberly A.) Thayres III, Scott Marple, Brandon M. Thayres, and Mackenzie R.
