Arthur Harper was one of the best Jazz Bassists to come out of Philly. A world class Jazz Bassist. He played with many of the greatest Jazz Musicians including trombonist J.J. Johnson (12 yrs), guitarist Wes Montgomery, trumpeters Lee Morgan (Mastbaum grad), Miles Davis & Jazz singers Betty Carter & Shirley Scott and many many other Jazz greats. His CD's & LP' Jazz recordings are legend. Go to You Tube to play a few of his videos. I am proud to have played in the Mastbaum's school band with Arthur. Arthur died in Philly at 65. In July, 2002, I attended his memorial Jazz Jam session at the Clef Club (South Broad St). Many of his Philly & NYC jazz friends came to "PLAY" homage. // Sheldon Goberman, class of '59
