Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Inc. - Lansdale on Mar. 24, 2026.
Gail Ruth Batson (Spare), 86 of Telford PA, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026 at home, with the love of her family surrounding her. She was born on April 20, 1939 in the Kensington section of Philadelphia to Charles and Elizabeth Spare.
Gail was blessed with some amazing friendships that remained an unwavering source of love and support throughout her life. Her longest friendships started in middle school and at Mastbaum High School, where she was a cheerleader and lettered in bowling, a hobby she enjoyed for many years. She went on to graduate in 1957. Gail often recalled fun times with her friends in Wildwood, NJ going to dances on the boardwalk as well as places like Hurricane's, the Starlight Ballroom, and St. Joan of Arc's in Philadelphia. One of her fondest memories was seeing her favorite musician, Johnny Matthis, perform in Wildwood one summer. She never stopped playing his songs, so much so that her grandchildren know them well.
Gail married her high school sweetheart, John, in 1961, and was married for 51 years. John's boisterous personality helped to balance Gail's tendency towards shyness, and he encouraged her to find fun and enjoy her social life more fully. Together, they raised four children. As a mother, Gail was attentive, compassionate, and a good listener – qualities that remained after she got a full-time job at First Fidelity Bank, where she worked as an executive secretary for 15 years. She loved her family wholeheartedly and nurtured them with tenderness and quiet strength. Gail adored her grandchildren, who loved spending time together with her. They enjoyed sleepovers at Mommom's well into their teens - and the special breakfasts she would prepare for them stood out as highlights. She also had a deep love for all animals and is now reunited with her beloved dogs Andy and Mandy, who passed before her.
In the early 1980s, Gail and John made a lasting connection with a group of couples they met at church. Friendships rooted in realness, lots of laughter, and mutual unconditional love and support. They created countless unforgettable moments together, and Gail's bond with the ladies helped her through many difficult times.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Batson; her beloved son, Jack Batson; her dear sister, Mary Jean Miller; she is survived by her son Scott and daughter-in-law Erika Batson; daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Daniel Gnau; daughter Amy and son-in-law Christopher; her six grandchildren Sarah and her husband Matt Walz, Ethan and Evan Gnau, Madelyn and her husband JD Plonk, Jack and Noah Hill, and her great-granddaughter Cecilia Walz.
Relatives and friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
