John Fahy

John W. Fahy - Class of 1961

John W. Fahy, of Langhorne, PA died peacefully at Holland Village in Richboro, PA on February 3, 2023, after a long and brave fight with stroke complications and heart disease.  He was 78.

John was the beloved husband of Frances (nee Peranteau) for over 56 years. Together, they built a life of love, dedicated to one another wholly and completely, while always caring for their many family members and friends.

Born in Philadelphia, PA John was the son of the late  Edward T. Fahy and Josephine R. Fahy (nee Longarello). Along with his beloved wife Frances, he is survived his dear brother of Edward Fahy (Stella) and James Fahy (Sue Klein). John was the dearest father of Colleen Skarzynski (David), devoted Pop-Pop to his grandchildren, Shane, and Keira, and cherished brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin to his extended family.

A retired Philadelphia Police Officer of 27 years and US Army Reserve veteran, John strived to serve others wherever he was needed. In his police years, he formed many life-long friendships with his fellow policeman. He also shared a strong bond throughout his life with his five brothers and two stepbrothers, especially his youngest brother Jimmy, who even shared the same birthday with John.

A talented artist, he created the first Slim Jim wrapper design and hand painted many holiday scenes at Christmas on his front house windows. After his police retirement, John poured his creative energies into a second career as a kitchen and bath designer for over 17 years. He passed on his artistic interests to his daughter Colleen and grandchildren Shane and Keira who all share his love and interest for art.

Soccer was also a long-time obsession of John’s, starting in his youth when he became a passionate and talented player, eventually rising to the level of semi-pro for the US Army Reserves. Later, he poured his heart into coaching at Liberty Bell soccer club and Holy Family University for many years. Even to the end, he watched almost every game of his favorite soccer team, Manchester United with nephew and friend Wayne Paul, who he also taught and cheered on in his own soccer career.

He was a loyal and kind friend whose generous nature was a comfort and saving grace to many people. His infectious laugh and boyish smile brought a little magic to this world. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him, and he had a special gift for making everyone feel that all would be ok.

At the center of his life was family. His last years were not the gentle road he’d hoped for or deserved but he made the most of it. He was a mentor to his son-in-law David, and playmate and protector to his grandchildren, Keira and Shane. He was a loving presence to his wife and daughter until his very last breath.

The world is a far better place for having him in it and a part of John will live on in our hearts forever. He will be missed more than we can ever say in words.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3252 Chesterfield Rd. Phila, PA. on Monday, February 27, 2023, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. His interment will be held privately.
