Helen Stewart Obituary

Helen A. Stewart, 92, of Pittston, and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2024, at the United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, Pittston, where she had been a resident since 2002.

Born in Duryea on July 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Anna Barbush Stewart.

Helen was a graduate of Duryea High School, Class of 1948, where she was the class valedictorian; a graduate of College Misericordia, Class of 1952, with a Bachelor of Arts in social studies; and a graduate of Temple University, Class of 1966, with a Master of Education in counseling and guidance. Helen was employed as a guidance counselor by Jules E. Mastbaum High School, Philadelphia, from 1972 until her retirement in 1993.

In addition to her parents, Owen and Anna, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Stewart; and her brother, Herbert Stewart.

Surviving are many cousins.

In accordance with Helen's wishes, private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Twp.
