Valerie Petranto (Malone)

Valerie J. Malone, 72, of Bordentown, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024, with her family lovingly by her side.

Born in Trenton on April 4, 1951, Valerie graduated from St. Mary’s Cathedral High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Trenton State College, now the College of New Jersey. Valerie’s love for knowledge, travel and cooking led her to earn a graduate certificate in culinary arts from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, and master’s degrees from both New York University and Trenton State College.

Valerie devoted her entire career of 35 years to teaching home economics at Mastbaum High School in Philadelphia, where her students affectionately referred to her as “Ms. P.”  She continued her passion for cooking and education by teaching French and Italian cuisine at both Ewing and Hamilton Evening Schools including leading “Taste of the Town”, an adult class to support local restaurants. Valerie also dedicated her time to tutor international students in English as a Second Language (ESL).

Beloved wife of Joseph R. Malone III, they celebrated their marriage of 50 years on December 29th. An affectionate grandmother, Valerie’s most treasured moments were being called “Grande Grand-mère” by her four adoring grandchildren while sharing her love for reading and cooking with them.

Daughter of the late Dr. Russell R. and Mary Petranto, Valerie is survived by her sons, Joseph and his wife Shelley and their daughters Madelyn and Lucy, and Michael and his wife Evelyn and their sons William and James; her siblings, Dr. Michael Petranto and his wife Lynn, Jessica Smith and her husband Scott, Iris Hill and her husband John, and Dr. Russell D. Petranto; uncle Edward Petranto and his wife Angela, aunt Donna Patz, sister-in-law Kathy Herbert and husband Allen, and brothers-in-law John Malone, Ronald Maxson and William Hartmann and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
