John J. Lawrence Jr. - Class of 1966

July 4, 1947 – March 26, 2021

John J. Lawrence Jr., 73, of East Freedom, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona after an accidental fall. He was born in Philadelphia, son of the late John J. Sr. and Florence (Horton) Lawrence. He married Sandra (Croft) Thomasello on July 4, 2003.

Surviving are his wife of 18 years; a brother, Edward Horton in CA; a brother-in-law, Walt Llwellyn in Bensalem. John was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Llwellyn, and a brother, Paul.

John graduated from Mastbaum High School. He worked for 31 years as an automobile mechanic, then retired from building maintenance after 15 years.

John was a Neshaminy District BSA Troop Leader and received the Order of The Arrow Award. He was a life member of the NRA, NC Beach Buggy Asso., and the Reading Railroad Museum.

He loved his family and friends, travelling, guns, surf fishing, and cars. He was a kind and gentle man who helped anyone in need. He was loved by many and will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Mending Hearts Animal Shelter: PO Box 97, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.

Robert Gernaga (1966)

John was quite a character. We worked together at Wilkie Volkswagen on the co-op program.

Years later, I started to work back at Wilkie VW, only now it was Irvin Green Honda.

John was still working there. I was a service advisor, John was a tech.

We worked well together, he had a really dry sense of humor.

I missed him when I left there. I am really sad to hear of his passing.
