John Robert Ferrau Sr. - Class of 1960

Ferrau, Sr., John R., of Philadelphia, passed away on October 23rd at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (nee Czyzewicz), devoted father of John R. Ferrau, Jr. (the late Helen), Anthony M. Ferrau (Lena), Robert E. Ferrau (Jennifer), Joseph J. Ferrau (Patricia), and Cynthia M. Wallace (Charles); loving brother of Joseph T. Ferrau, Jr., and the late Doris Burleigh; devoted grandfather of Tyler, Stefan, Sebastian, Rachel, Meghan, Amanda, Mario, Dominic, Jessica, Charles, Gabrielle, and Mackenzie, and great grandfather of Leon, Vincent, Alice, Riley, and Reese. John will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.

John was born in Baltimore, Maryland to his parents the late Joseph T. Ferrau, Sr., and Clara (nee Hamilton). He went on to graduate from Mastbaum High School where he lettered in bowling. John served our community as an officer in the Philadelphia Police Department for 16 years in the 9th District. John was an avid Phillies fan, loved the many dogs and pets he had over his life, playing the accordion, and enjoyed collecting model trains. Most of all John loved his family and was a devoted family man.

Family and friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154, on Thursday, October 27th from 6 – 8 PM, and on Friday, October 28th from 9 – 10 AM at Our Lady of Calvary, 11024 Knights Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154. A funeral mass will follow at 10 AM. John’s family requests that in his memory everyone wears either plaid, flannel, or Phillies gear to his Life Celebration.
