Barbara Groh-Hugo - Class of 1956

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Sep. 20, 2023.

Barbara Ann Hugo (nee Groh)
April 12 1937 – September 16, 2023
Formerly of Philadelphia, Barbara has resided at Elm Terrace in Lansdale for the past 5 years. She was born in Rochester New York and moved by the age of 6 to the Juniata section of Philadelphia where she lived until her marriage to David Murdock, also of Juniata, in 1958. She met her friend Miriam (Mim) when she moved to Juniata and they were fast best friends and remain so to this day. When David entered the army and was shipped to Germany shortly after their marriage, Barbara followed him there where she lived for 2 years and gave birth to their first child. Her bravery and determination were apparent even then as she traversed the journey alone in 1959 and lived in a foreign country with maybe 6 words of the local language.
A creative mind and an eye for color, fashion and style, Barbara attended Mastbaum High School, majoring in interior design. She was a homemaker for most of her married life and entered the workforce in cosmetic sales for Rowell's in Germantown and later Gimbels and Bonwit Teller in the late 70's.
She was active at Calvary Episcopal Church until her marriage to Howard Hugo and her subsequent move to North Wales., PA where she remained until moving to Lansdale. She and Howard were singing members of the Northeast Oratorio Choir and enjoyed many concerts and friends made there. They enjoyed vacationing in Cape May and Oratorio trips to Bermuda. They were happily married for 25 years before his death in 2014.
An avid crafter and decorator, Barbara was often seen making bows and wreathes for the holiday décor or painting. She loved to read and shop for clothes, jewelry and all things crafty. She was an avid fan of classical music and Professional Ice Skating.
She is predeceased by her husband, Howard Hugo and is survived by her 3 daughters, Renee Overholtzer (Jim), Lisa Murdock, and Karen Murdock (Elaine Caronia); her Grandchildren Allison Overholtzer, Connor Murdock and Daniel Murdock; Step-Daughter Donna Downey (Russell) and Grandson, Russ; Sister, Claire, Sister Margaret (Steve) and Brother Michael
