Ethel Waring (Fetterly) - Class Of 1933

Ethel (Waring) Fetterly


Ethel M. Fetterly, 98, formerly of West Reading, died February 8, 2016, in Berks Heim.

She was the wife of 66 years to the late Rev. Walter P. Fetterly. Ethel served with him in congregations in Verona, Scenery Hill, Scranton, West Reading and Hamburg, PA.

Born April 15, 1917, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Carrie A. (Gross) Waring.

Ethel was a 1933 graduate of Mastbaum High Vocational School, Philadelphia.

She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Reading, where she was the president of the Lutheran Church Women, and served as the church's secretary and treasurer. She was also very involved in Bethany's Sunday School, where she was the superintendent of the Jr. department, was the coordinator of the vacation Bible school for 15 years and was a teacher for many years.

Ethel also organized the Quilt Making Group of Lutheran World Relief. She did this at Bethany Lutheran Evangelical Church as well as St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran "Smoke" Church - Hamburg, PA.

She is survived by four children: Paul B., Orlando, FL; Rev. Timothy J., El Dorado, AR; Walter G., Dover, PA; and Ethel N. Altig, Mohnton. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 4, 2016,

at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading.
