Maritza Hernandez - Class of 1994
 

Maritza Hernandez, of Philadelphia, passed away on January 13th 2021 at the age of 44. Maritza was the daughter of Naida Miranda and the late Ruben Hernandez. Maritza was the caring mother of Dejah Lloyd (Aaron Kostek) and Jeyda Staton. Maritza was the sister of Eric Hernandez (Nicole), and Ruben Hernandez (Cely), and partner to Jerome "Ty" Lassiter. Maritza will also be greatly missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Maritza was the Principal at Julia De Burgos Elementary, and worked for the Philadelphia School District for over 10 years. Maritza was a devoted principal. She took pride in helping her students and family strive for greatness, regardless of circumstances. Through the years, Maritza earned three Masters of Education. Maritza made many lifelong friends through her time with Philadelphia schools.

Maritza will always be remembered for her love of warm weather. She was happiest when she was on a beach, visiting family in Florida, or visiting family in Barranquitas Puerto Rico. Maritza also loved dancing and singing with family and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to Maritza's Celebration of Life viewing on Saturday January 16th at the Geitner Givnish funeral home (6230 N. 5th Street, Phila. 19120) from 6:30PM to 8:30PM . Services and interment will be private
