NIWINSKI, Walter Clement, - 78, of Cape May, NJ passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at his home. Walter was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Clement and Jean (nee Mysiak) Niwinski. He held various jobs from age 16 before joining Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania where he worked for 26 years before retiring. Walter spent countless hours volunteering for his community through Bell Telephone Pioneers of America and was a former President of the Liberty Bell Chapter of Pennsylvania. He spent many hours in his garage, designing and creating numerous pieces of furniture for his home and family. There is nothing Walt couldn't fix or make. Many times, being called upon by friends, neighbors, and family to lend a hand. Walter was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker, photographer and a lover of all animals. Walter's true passion was his involvement with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 82 at the US Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May. Walter held many positions with Flotilla 82 where he was elected Commander for 2 terms; taught the boating safety certification class; instructed base cadets in seamanship and performed countless vessel safety checks for the Cape May coastal community. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Dorothy Niwinski (Mahon). They were high school classmates and reconnected at their 50th class reunion and were married a year later. Also, survived by brothers, Thomas Niwinski (Dolores), James Niwinski (Ellen); stepchildren, Mark Mahon (Maria), Jennifer Nelson (DeJohin) and Patrick Mahon (Jenna); children, Michael Niwinski and Melissa Niwinski; grandchildren, Olivia, Lauren, Elaina, Matthew, Nicholas, and Rose; nieces and nephews, Kathy, Karen, Tina, James and Mike; best friends, Jim Kelly and Jack Smith, and his beloved Scottish Terrier, Claymore. He is predeceased by his parents, Clement and Jean Niwinski, and second wife, Patricia Niwinski (nee Kelly). Walter's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (May 21st) at 11am in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May where friends will be received from 10am until 11am. Interment will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Cape May County Zoo and/or Cape May County Animal Shelter will be greatly appreciated.
