In Memory

Albert Egner - Class Of 1958

Albert Egner

Albert C. Egner of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Jeanes Hospital. He was 82 years old. Albert was born May 15, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Christian Egner and the late Florence Egner (nee - Metzger). He is the beloved husband of Bernadette Egner (nee Jaje); brother of Sue Egner Tull and her late husband Howard. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Al was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia, PA. He was a proud graduate of Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational High School and continued his education at Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute. After high school, Al worked with his sister at Cooper Jarrett Motor Freight as a teletype operator. He later worked for over 26 years as a radio engineer for WDAS a Philadelphia radio station. After retiring, Al was a representative for Frank Rizzo Jr. at City Hall.

Al and Bernadette met in a memorable but less than traditional way. On a rainy Wednesday in 1980, Bernadette decided to call some old phone numbers she knew to see if anyone would answer. When she tried her sister's old number, Al answered. They went on to talk for several hours. Later on they would meet and go on to date until they wed on February 2, 2002 at Rhawnhurst Methodist Church.

Al loved being outside and enjoyed camping, boating, basketball, and he played softball with his friends at WDAS (where they would often play against inmates at the local prison). He was a Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Al could be described as a true Methodist. He never smoked, drank alcohol, or used curse words. One of his favorite activities was his model railroad which he put together. The family has supplied wonderful photos of his work on the model railroad in the slideshow on this page (soon to be added).

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. and funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA
