Harold Terwilliger, Jr.

Harold M. Terwilliger - Class of 1956
Harold M. Terwilliger, aged 82, died Wednesday, May 12th at Nash Hospital in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Born December 15th, 1938, he was the second oldest of seven children of the late Harold and Beatrice (Wagner) Terwilliger.  Harold was a graduate of Jules Mastbaum High School and received his BS degree in Physics from LaSalle College.

In his work life, Harold was a highly intelligent and well-respected professional.  He held various positions in engineering, product management, and development of analytical technology for Leeds and Northrup and Honeywell for 43 years until his retirement.  He managed multiple product lines, and as an engineer, led the development of over 30 types of measurement products.  Harold was the holder of a patent and author of a scientific paper, both in the area of novel analytical tools.

He met the love of his life, Patricia Rink, in Philadelphia, and they were married in June of 1960.  They resided in Philadelphia where they started their family of three children, Mike, Chris, and Mark.  In 1979, they moved the family to Holland, PA. Many memories were made in Holland while the children were young, including hosting pool parties in the outdoor space where Harold created a beautiful garden for everyone to enjoy.  In 2006, they moved to Harrington Village in Souderton, PA.  There he served as past president of the homeowner’s executive board and as an enthusiastic volunteer for many other committees.

Harold and Pat enjoyed traveling in their retirement.  They went to Hawaii several times and spent many long weekends in New England and Spring Lake.  Wherever he went, Harold always had his camera in hand, making memories to share with his family.  Harold relished his role as grandfather.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was known as “Grampy Harold” to the children of many of  his children’s friends.  Harold and Pat spent many summers on the west coast dedicating time to their grandkids there.  You could always find Grampy in the audience, usually taking pictures, supporting all of his cherished grandchildren in any way that he could.

Harold was a skilled handyman and the ultimate “DIYer.” He was always available to help with any project large or small; from plumbing to electrical to school projects, he was a wonderful resource.  Harold was an avid gardener most of his life and took great pride in his gardening and landscaping.  Finally, one cannot remember Harold without recalling his famous goodie bags for the kids.  He always had a sweet in his pocket and was prepared for any situation with not only his kids but anyone’s.

He was very loving and committed to his wife as well as to his entire extended family. He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and the center of the family he helped to create and nurture.  He will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Michael (Lorie), Christopher, Mark (Stephanie) and six grandchildren, Chelsea, Sarah, Ryan, Sophia, Logan, and Garrett.

Services and internment will be private and at the discretion of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made in Harold’s honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
