Joan Spross (Sampedro) - Class Of 1949

Joan T. Sampedro Obituary

Joan T. Spross-Sampedro, 84, of North Ft. Myers, FL, and formerly of North Wales, PA, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances Spross. She graduated from Mastbaum High School and the Tyler School of Art and Design, where she majored in commercial art. Joan had a zest for life. A devoted homemaker, she used her many artistic and creative skills at her children’s schools and in various church and community activities. Her life had great purpose and she knew how to live it fully, while at the same time never forgetting what was most important to her: that she was a child of God. Joan left a legacy to all who knew her. She enjoyed and treasured the wonderful gifts she felt God bestowed on her: a loving family, dear friends, and her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband used to say, “Joan never met a stranger,” and she believed that, to have a friend, you had to be one. A political enthusiast her entire life, she was greatly looking forward to this year’s presidential election. Joan is survived by her four children: Charlene Bertheaud of Newark, DE; Cindy Shadle and her husband, Jim, of New Cumberland, PA; Cheryl Fugate and her husband, Bob, of Guadalajara, Mexico; J. Gregory Sampedro and his husband, Jeremy, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a great granddaughter due in January 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1987, her daughter-in-law Kelly Sampedro and her son-in-law Ed Bertheaud. Family and friends are invited to visit at the May Funeral Home, 142 North Main St. North Wales, on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 5-7 p.m.; and on Monday at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church,1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454 at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at St. John Neumann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Cheryl and Bob Fugate’s missionary ministry in Mexico: www.cmalliance.org/give.
